  The Western Xia Mausoleum is the Mausoleum of Western Xia emperors and is also one of the biggest emperor mausoleums with its ground site in integrity in China. It was announced as a Key Cultural Relic Unit under National Protection and a national key scenic site by the State Council in 1988. It was arranged on the first tentative list for Natural and Cultural Heritage of China by the MOC in 2006. It entered the tentative list for the National Archaeological Site Park by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2013.
  The Western Xia Mausoleum is located in the eastern Helan Mountain, 5km wide from east to west, 10km long from north to south. Nine emperors’ mausoleums are orderly arranged dotted with 271 accompanied tombs which belong to the royal families or heroes in an area about 42.8 sqkm. The tower-shaped Mausoleum Platforms are high as hills stretched along the foot of the Helan Mountain and splendid shining in the sunlight. The buildings on the ground of the mausoleum include corner platforms, tower platforms, tablet pavilions, moon town, the mausoleum town, the sacrifice hall, the tower-shaped mausoleum and other units. The trapezoid- shaped layout is symmetrically distributed on the east and west according to the north -south central axis. It is the extraordinary Western Xia style in China’s mausoleums.
  To give a better understanding of Western Xia history and cultural to the visitors at home and abroad, we have developed No.3 Mausoleum as the center of the tourist area as well as we have enhanced the protection of the cultural relics. We have built the Western Xia Museum, the Western Xia Art Gallery and the Western Xia Stele Forest, opened the visiting route of No.1, No.2 Mausoleum which can show the deep historical knowledge of Western Xia Kingdom and become an important scenic spot for people to explore the mystery of the Western Xia Kingdom. The unique cultural relics different from those in central China and its attractive fascination have won itself the reputation of the Oriental Pyramids and the Mysterious Wonders.

  The tourists service guide of the Western Xia Mausoleum
  Nine emperors’ mausoleums are orderly arranged in the Western Xia Mausoleum Scenic Spot, dotted with 271 accompanied tombs. Tourists can visit the Western Xia Museum, the Western Xia Art Gallery and the Western Xia Stele Forest, No.1, No.2 and No.3 Mausoleum.
  Tourists can take the electric vehicles or walk to get to the fist stop the Western Xia Museum.  Along the way to the Museum you can have a view of stone statures of ancient officials and officers, auspicious beasts. The Western Xia Museum is the first museum which takes the Western Xia Mausoleum as the background and reflects the Western Xia culture. There are two layers and nine exhibition rooms including the Scale Models Room, the History Room, the Society and Economy Room, the Culture Room, the Academic Achievements Room, the Mural Room and so on. Visitors can enjoy the tour guide all the way.
  After visiting the museum, the Art Gallery of the Western Xia history is 200 meters away on the left. 18 groups of scene exhibitions reflect the development of the Western Xia history vividly. There are also models of   Grand Buddha Pagoda, the Baisikou Twin Pagodas, the Chengtian Temple Pagoda and some other ancient buildings made as the scale of 6:1.   About 20 meters west is the Western Xia Forest of Steles which has the special Western Xia cultural connotation. Many epic poems which were written to praise the Western Xia Kingdom or the Western Xia Mausoleums by the scholars are carved here by the well-known calligraphers. These metrical poems are admired from a very close distance.
  Across the alleys, No.3 Mausoleum is located 500 meters west from the Western Xia Forest of Steles. According to the tentative speculation from the experts, No.3 Mausoleum is the first emperor Li Yuanhao’s mausoleum as well as the most completed mausoleum in the area. It is composed of corner platforms, tower platforms, tablet pavilions, moon town, the mausoleum town, the sacrifice hall, the tower-shaped mausoleum and other units. It is an epitome of history, culture, military, economy, social development and mausoleum institution of the Western Xia Kingdom. As the Western Xia Mausoleum developed a school of its own, it has become a absolutely necessary for the visitors. The mausoleum is of desolate and primitive simplicity. Any behaviors climbing and of destroying the cultural relics are forbidden here.
  500 meters south along the Deity Path, visitors will get to the transit point where you can take the electric bus to the No.1 and No.2 mausoleum sites.
  At the pick-up point of the No.1 and No.2 mausoleum, visitors will return to the gate of the sites by electric buses. The whole journey comes to the end.
